Grocery stores are organized and displayed in a manner to draw your attentions to items that they want you to buy. The representatives of the food Producers and Marketers, pay a premium for shelf space to optimize your view of their product(s). Notice that as you enter the grocery store, you are confronted with high visuals, -- bright colors, fancy letterings, age/gender/occupational graphics, so that if you are accompanied with or have children, then the cereal box colors are bright reds, yellows and greens, and adorned with cartoon characters, and other items designed to grab your child's attention.

What are Cereals?

Junk4

Cereals are grasses cultivated for the edible components of their seed, and those seeds are composed of the endosperm, germ, and bran.Yes, these are good things to eat, however, the germ is one of the things that cause the grain to germinate and grow a new crop, and since the breakfast cereals may have to be stored for a relatively long period of time, the germ must be removed. Bran is the hard outer layer of the grain and is usually removed in the milling process. So, our breakfast cereals are left with the endosperm. Endosperm can be regarded as "baby food for baby plants." When the baby plant grows roots, stems and leaves, it can produce it's own food.

Remember the Masthead: "Shopping Is Always Fun! Until You Meet the Cashier!"

Well it does not have to be so. You can easily achieve 25 to 30% savings in your food bills. How is that possible? Easy. Avoid heavily processed foods. Start with the caveat: "If it comes in a box, then that item is a second choice of things to eat." The items placed in boxes are designed (processed) to last 3 months to years before consumption ... that means chemicals and/or reduction of essential items that promote spoilage. If we can use meat as an example; Cows eat grain and grasses, and convert that grain or grass, into protein (meat). So we could look at meat as processed grain. Then we eat the cow/lamb/goat/sheep, after processing it further by cooking it. If we use breakfast cereals as another example, we see that the oats/wheat/rye/corn is stripped of its kernel; bran; and then boiled, baked, pressed and shaped into the breakfast cereal that is presented with many claims of "health" etc. All of this processing is expensive, and YOU are expected and forced to pay for that procesessing!

Thus, we want to utilize the minimally processed items. Go back into the grocery stores. Look at the layout! The lightly processed items are furthest from the check-out stand. The best medicine in the world is the quality of food that we eat, and additionally, that food will obviate the need for medicines designed to treat the symptoms rather than cure the condition. If we restrict our intake of animal protein to five (5%) percent or less of our nutritional intake, we can still get all of the necessary protein and nutrients from plants. Yes, we eat: Fruit, Flowers, Leaves, Stems, Roots. Of course, not ALL plants or portions thereof are edible, so use a bit of common sense, or seek advice on injesting these unknown plants. Too many people have died from eating mushrooms ...

So, firstly, by eliminating or severely restricting the processsed items, we can cut our food-bill by at least 25%. Secondly, by eliminating or again, severely restricting, 'our eating-out' we can improve that food-bill by 33-to-50%. When other people prepare food for your consumption, they prepare it according to what they 'think' your tastes are or should be! Including the amount of SALT and SUGAR they deem necessary to accommodate YOUR tastes. Of course, you are still paying for that luxury!

Soft drinks (sodas or pops) are composed of Water, Sugar, Salt and other flavoring additives. Water, as the medium to 'carry' all of the other ingredients; Salt, to increase your 'thirst'; Sugar, to 'hide' the taste of the salt; and 'additives' to differentiate this product from the others. All together, these combinations serve to separate you from your money, nothing else, and Yes -- you pay to drink that stuff. Water is all you need!
